Worktops in Midsomer Norton and Radstock
Midsomer Norton closely adjoins Radstock; from 1933 to 2011 the two towns formed a single administrative area, Norton Radstock. Both are now in Bath & North East Somerset. We fit quartz, granite, porcelain and marble worktops across both towns, whether you are replacing worn worktops or fitting out a new kitchen.
A former coalfield town
Midsomer Norton grew with the Somerset coalfield. The seams were thin and hard to work, but mining shaped the town until the last pit, at Norton Hill, closed in 1966. Homes here range widely in age, from older stone-built terraces to post-war and recent estates, and each brings its own practical questions.
In an older terrace, expect walls that are not quite square and a route in through the house; templating records the room as it really is. In a newer home, the main checks are whether the existing units are level and strong enough for stone, and how a thinner stone worktop lines up with the tiles and appliances. See replacement worktops for what is involved.
The Midsomer Norton and Welton conservation area
The town has a conservation area, covering Midsomer Norton and Welton, which includes 37 listed buildings. Historic England includes it on its Heritage at Risk register, where its condition is recorded as very bad but improving. If your home is listed, check with Bath & North East Somerset Council before works that alter its historic fabric. Replacing a modern kitchen worktop is not normally the concern.
