Marble worktops for Bath kitchens

Consider marble for your kitchen with clear questions about appearance, acid sensitivity, maintenance and alternatives.

Decide how you want the surface to age

Marble deserves a decision based on everyday use as well as appearance. The Natural Stone Institute explains that calcium-carbonate-based stone is sensitive to acidic solutions. Ask us to explain etching and staining separately and show what changes could look like on your chosen finish.

If keeping the surface visually unchanged is a priority, discuss alternatives before choosing. A marble-effect quartz design or a porcelain surface may be worth viewing, without assuming they look or behave exactly like natural marble.

View and specify the actual material

Ask to see the proposed slab and agree the layout of prominent veins, joints and cut-outs. Consider where you prepare food and whether a different surface would suit a heavily used working area.

Discuss the finish, maintenance, repair options and any exclusions in writing. Never rely on a general “sealed” description as an answer to every care question.

Questions to ask us

  • What changes in appearance should I expect from normal kitchen use?
  • Which cleaning products are suitable for this exact stone and finish?
  • What is included in the finishing and sealing specification?
  • How would a damaged edge or affected area be assessed?

Use the material comparison guide to weigh these trade-offs alongside budget and design.
