Choose the finished appearance
Bring reference photographs and describe whether you prefer a slender line or a more substantial edge. Ask us to explain how that appearance is made with your selected surface, including whether it uses a built-up detail.
Do not assume an edge that looks thick is a single slab of that thickness. Request a sample or section drawing when the detail is central to the design.
Check the consequences for the kitchen
Discuss finished worktop height, appliance clearances, the relationship with existing splashbacks, sink mounting and exposed ends. A replacement should be checked against the existing kitchen rather than a generic specification.
Ask for confirmation of support beneath islands and overhangs. The material, dimensions and support arrangement need assessing together before fabrication.
Specify the edge in the quotation
- Identify which edges are exposed and need finishing.
- Confirm the profile at straight runs and corners.
- Ask how the edge looks around a sink opening.
- Identify any waterfall return and how its joint is formed.
Available thicknesses depend on the product. Check the chosen manufacturer's current specification, particularly for porcelain or sintered surfaces. Use the cost guide to keep alternative edge details visible in the quote.
